The Last of the Cars

February 12th, 2008

Dan has finished the last of the craft fairs before Christmas. Some of you have been in touch about these cars, having seen the photo of their finishing touches in a previous post. These are the remaining cars that came home from the fair, since then the red and the dark blue cars have been sold, but the rest are still available.

One of the things you can’t tell from a photo is that the wooden toys smell lovely. By using eco-friendly paints and varnishes the resulting aroma is reminiscent of essential oils.

SFSA- Project Elo

February 12th, 2008

Elo translates literally as ‘link’ which is exactly what the project aims to do: link farmers together to share knowledge and exchange information with the hope of increasing marketability of their crops.
Cashew is a traditional crop for Nordeste Brazil, but traditional processing methods are labour intensive and wasteful. Elo is providing farmers with the knowledge and equipment to harvest, process and market their cashews. Greater control enables farmers to become a more respected partner, affording them an independence which has bred a culture of pride and a sense of ownership among the farming community.

Snoop Dogg

February 12th, 2008

The Dogg komt trouwens vaker op TV tegenwoordig, in zijn eigen reality-show Snoop Dogg’s Father Hood.

REO Speedwagon played a mini show on the Chicago river aboard a speed boat this morning. I was at the Merchandise Mart along with many fans and Johnny B. from the Loop. I took many pictures from the Loop bleachers with my camera phone and I will be posting them to my Buzznet page, http://smanofsteel76.buzznet.com/, so check them out. This was definitely a “one of a kind” experience. REO rocked and Johnny B. got the crowd excited. I had fun and getting up this morning at 4:30 was worth it. As far as I could tell the people on the streets around there were having fun too. the sound was a little shaky at first and when they did get it on, I would have preferred it to be louder. Even still, it was fun to see a rock band on the river. Some hits REO played were, Roll With The Changes, Time For Me To Fly, Gloria, and more. Rock on Chicago!

Reo Speedwagon - After Tonight

February 12th, 2008

Staring up at the moonlight
Looking up at the stars
I’m alone and I just want to be with you
But I don’t know where you are

Maybe I took you for granted
So blind, I let your love slip away
Now I’m missing you so much I can’t stand it
Please believe me when I say,

After tonight, I never will be the same again
This time I’m sure that nothing means more
Than giving you all the love I can
After tonight I promise, I’m gonna be a better man
Just hold me tight, and I’ll be all right
After tonight

Anticipating the moment
When I can make love with you again
Patience is a virtue I’m finding
Very hard to understand

After tonight, I never will be the same again
Just hold me tight, and I’ll be all right
After tonight

After tonight, I never will be the same again
This time I’m sure that nothing means more
Than giving you all the love I can
After tonight I promise, I’m gonna be a better man
Just hold me tight, and I’ll be all right
After tonight

“Time For Me To Fly” by REO Speedwagon

Ive been around for you
Ive been up and down for you
But I just cant get any relief
Ive swallowed my pride for you
Ive lived and lied for you
But you still make me feel like a thief

You got me stealin your love away
cause you never give it
Peeling the years away
And we cant relive it
I make you laugh
And you make me cry
I believe its time for me to fly

You said wed work it out
You said that you had no doubt
That deep down we were really in love
Oh, but Im tired of holding on
To a feeling I know is gone
I do believe that Ive had enough

Ive had enough of the falseness
Of a worn out relation
Enough of the jealousy
And the intoleration
I make you laugh
And you make me cry
I believe its time for me to fly

{refrain} time for me to fly
Oh, Ive got to set myself free
Time for me to fly
And thats just how its got to be
I know it hurts to say goodbye
But its time for me to fly

Massive attack

February 12th, 2008

Ethan Zuckerman reports from the Sunlight/Berkman conference on ‘Ten Democracy Projects in Seventy Minutes‘.

I see three themes there (my analysis): radical transparency, community empowerment, and massive participation.

Radical transparency: you should have access to any knowledge that affects your life. Governments and corporations should be fully exposed.

Community empowerment: communities need the access to technological means to organize and mobilize themselves.

Massive participation: social technology can allow the wide masses to collaboratively shape the democratic process.

Did any one say cluetrain?
